What is a Habitat?#Copy URL to this article section
A Habitat represents the terrarium home of a Genopet. Owning a Habitat unlocks enjoyable features of the game such as Crafting, Harvesting $KI and Terraforming. These can be done through a web browser, while banking steps to gain Energy and take care of your pet can be done on the app.
You can buy a Habitat by simply visiting their Magic Eden Marketplace where they are available for sale.

A Habitat has 4 unique properties: Level, Elemental Domain, Type, and Delegation Status.
Level. Habitats can progress through levels 1, 2 and 3. Habitats with higher levels give you more items. You can level up your Habitat by visiting your Habitat overview webpage and acquiring $GENE and $KI tokens, along with the genotype crystal specific to your habitat element.
Elemental Domain. There are 5 elemental domains: earth, fire, metal, wood, and water. Your Habitat’s elemental domain will determine the type of Unrefined Crystal it produces.
Type. There are three types of Habitats: Genesis, Regular, and Guild.
The Genesis Habitat is the first batch of Habitats that offers specific benefits, including the capacity to Refine Genotype Crystals of any element and increased $KI Harvesting caps.
Regular Habitats are the standard type of Habitat that undergo Terraforming by other Habitats.
The Guild Habitat is specifically created for player-guild usage These Habitats cannot be traded in marketplaces and were sold to Guild partners to support the Economy's growth.
Delegation Status. If you own a habitat, you can assign a Harvester and an Alchemist to use your Habitat. Your Harvester will be assigned to harvest your $KI token everyday, while your Alchemist will be responsible for all the crafting tasks within your habitat.

Habitats can exist in one of three states:
Occupied - There is an Alchemist or Harvester assigned. Vacant - There are no designated Harvesters or Alchemists. Dormant - The Habitat has passed its decay period and is no longer capable of producing Unrefined Crystals.
Primary & Sub Habitat#Copy URL to this article section
By default, all Habitats are Primary. Sub-Habitats are formed when you connect additional Habitats to your Primary Habitat. This is done to increase the capacity of the Primary Habitat's daily $KI harvesting and crystal refinement. Additionally, your Sub-Habitats will generate Unrefined Crystals that you can process using your Habitat

Owning a Habitat unlocks premium features of the game, giving players more ways to enjoy. Let us discuss what functions you can perform as a result of owning a Habitat.
Harvesting $KI#Copy URL to this article section
Habitats can be used to harvest $KI on a daily basis. This requires the use of stored Energy. To perform this, you need to set two things: Quantity, which is the amount of $KI you want to harvest, and Waiting Period, which is the amount of time you want to wait before receiving the $KI.
Spending more Energy will allow you to shorten your waiting period and harvest more $KI.
When a Habitat is harvested for the first time, its lifespan begins to expire and the Habitat Harvesting window begins. Players can only harvest from one Primary habitat every 24 hours, with a 7-day minimum waiting period. In exchange for a better Energy to $KI exchange rate, this waiting period can be extended up to 14 days.

The amount of $KI that can be harvested from a Habitat each game day is limited. It is also determined by the Habitat’s level and the number of (if any) sub-Habitats connected to it.

Spawning Unrefined Crystal#Copy URL to this article section
Each Habitat produces Unrefined Crystals of the same element as its domain (if a Habitat’s element is Water, it will produce Unrefined Water Crystals). You need to refine these Crystals in the laboratory before you can use them in the Alchemy process (see Crafting/Alchemizing below).
The Habitat level determines the amount of Unrefined Crystals spawned per day.

Maintenance & Decay#Copy URL to this article section
The moment you activate your Habitat, it begins to decay. The lifespan of a Habitat depends on its level (i.e. Level 1 Habitats have a lifespan of 90 days).
To avoid decay, you can Repair your Habitat. Repairing a Habitat adds one day to its lifespan. A Refined Genotype Crystal is required for Habitat Repair.
The maximum number of times a player can repair their Habitat is determined by the Habitat durability. L1 Habitats have a Durability value of 90, which means they can be repaired up to 90 times. The level of the Habitat can be upgraded to increase durability. Each upgrade increases Durability by 90 points.
If you fail to repair your Habitat and it has completely decayed, it enters a state known as dormancy, in which it is unable to perform any action. When this happens, you need to restore or revive your Habitat before it can be used again. Once restored, it will regain its 90-day lifespan and durability.

If you think maintaining your Habitat is a lot of work, you can choose to put your Habitat into Hibernation. This will disable all functions and capabilities of your Habitat.
To do this, you need to specify how many days you want your Habitat to be frozen, and you’ll need to spend $KI and $GENE. The Hibernation $GENE cost and Max Hibernations based on the type of Habitats are shown in the table below:

If you own a Habitat, you get access to the Crafting System. Using $KI, $GENE, and Crystals, you can create items that you can use (or sell) for upgrades, customization, and enhancement of your gameplay experience.
In the Crafting System, you can do Terraformation, Refinement of Crystals, and Crafting Reagents and Augments.

Terraformation is the process by which Habitat owners can mint new Habitats. The following components are required to Terraform a single Habitat:
- Terraform seed (x1) - Refined Crystal of desired Elemental type (x3) - Habitat Laboratory - $GENE (5) - $KI
Terraform Seeds are produced only by Level 3 Habitats. Each Habitat will produce six terraform seeds of varying grades from 1 to 6.
The amount of $KI required is determined by the Terraform Seed Grade. The element of the Refined Crystals used will determine the element of the Habitat produced.

Refining Genotype Crystals gives you Alchemy ingredients. Unrefined Crystals must first be refined in a Habitat's Laboratory, transforming them into Refined Crystals; only then can you use them in gameplay. The following are the requirements for Crystal Refinement:

Crafting Reagents and Augments#Copy URL to this article section
Crafting is only possible if the player has a non-dormant Habitat or Alchemist rights. All craftable items in the game have a recipe. A recipe is a list of ingredients required to make a specific item. Here are some of the possible ingredients:

If you want to see all craftable items, check out their crafting recipes. You can craft Augments (body parts), Reagents (additional ingredients in recipes), and Cosmetics (new colors for your pet’s shell or lines).
Crafting Reagents and Augments

If you own a Habitat, you can choose to delegate a role to other players. Roles include Harvester (in charge of harvesting $KI) and Alchemist (in charge of Crafting).
After assigning roles, they will have the authority to harvest and craft using your Habitat and you will receive earnings for both roles. For the Harvester, your earnings will be a percentage of the $KI collected based on what you both agreed upon. As for the Alchemist, you will set how much is the rent amount and the type of token.
It is important to note that a percentage of every successful rentals or royalties will be allocated to the Genopets community treasury in order to support the development of these features. The fees involved are as follows:
For alchemy rentals, a 2% charge will be incurred at the time of payment, For harvester royalties, 1% of every harvest will be collected, with the remaining 99% being split between you and the designated harvester.
